Earth Day is April 21, and if you’re staying at hotels in Santa Monica, there’s a great way to celebrate and give back to the Earth. You can participate in the Nothing but Sand beach cleanup from 10am to 12pm on April 21 and receive FREE admission to the Santa Monica Aquarium!
Bags and gloves will be provided at the event. If you want to help the Earth even more, you can bring a bucket or reuse a bag from home. Reusable garden or kitchen gloves are also encouraged. It would also be a good idea to bring your own refillable water bottles to get through the heat!
Volunteers to cleanup must be 13 years old or be accompanied by an adult. Parent signatures are also requires on liability waiver forms. Parking after 9am is full price so volunteers should bring cash or come early to look for street parking. Early bird rate at the parking lot on Santa Monica Beach – Ocean Park only lasts until 9am. To RSVP for free, click here.
At the Santa Monica Aquarium, you can learn how to reduce your global footprint, as well as touch live animals found in the Santa Monica Bay. These animals include purple sea urchins, hermit crabs, sea stars, sea cucumbers, sea hares and much more. Visitors can learn about marine conservation by watching films, reading the Heal the Bay’s Beach Report Card or visiting the Aquarium’s pollution corner.
You can also enjoy an afternoon performance by Birdie’s Playhouse especially for kids ages 0 to 5! The music is all about wildlife with a Latin twist. The performance has been featured at the Natural History Museum, Kidspace and the New Children’s Museums. Be sure to do your part to help the Earth and celebrate Earth Day!
