It may not be snowing in Los Angeles, but if you’re staying in affordable hotels in Santa Monica, you can still get a taste of winter with Ice at Santa Monica! Every holiday season since 2006, Downtown Santa Monica builds an outdoor ice skating rink to the corner of 5th Street and Arizona Avenue to offer the beachside community some holiday cheer.
The 8,000 square foot rink is right by the beach and the perfect place to enjoy the holidays with friends and family. The rink is also two blocks away from the popular Third Street Promenade. You can throw a birthday or holiday party in the private event cabana and sign up for regular skating lessons. There is a smaller 400 square foot rink for younger children.
ICE at Santa Monica is a great place for both beginner and professional skaters. Their friendly staff members will provide helpful tips to novice skaters. Admission is $12 including skate rental. Locker rental is $5. Concessions and apparel is available at the rink for purchase. You can also buy the Santa Monica Skaters Dozen Pass for $100. With the pass, you can skate 12 times throughout the season.
The rink opens November 3 until January 21, 2013. It is open Monday through Thursday from 2pm to 10pm, Friday 2pm to midnight, Saturday 10am to midnight and Sunday 10am to 10pm.
ICE at Santa Monica is part of the Winterlit 2012 celebration of the holidays that will include community events and surprises. On Thursday, November 8, Downtown Santa Monica will host a Grand Opening Celebration from 6pm to 10pm to officially open the rink. National and World Champion pair skaters Randy Gardner and Tai Babilonia will perform to music by DJ Kelly Dlux along with family friendly activities. For more information on this event, click here.
