March is a great time to check out a new show in Santa Monica! This month, from the company that brought 8 sold out months of “Sideways
The Play” comes the never before staged musical comedy extravaganza “Paradise – A Divine Bluegrass Musical,” “LA Café Plays,” and “Library Girl.”
A small town in America called Paradise seeks salvation, as it is still stuck in the old times of cold mines. On the edge of living the American Dream, this lowbrow musical is about to be outsourced. Can a preacher and his sidekick stripper save the day? The comedy is directed by Dan Bonnell, with music and book by Bill Robertson, Tom Sage and Cliff Wagner. Performances are at 8pm on Fridays and Saturdays and 2pm on Sundays. The show runs now until March 30. LA Weekly’s Steven Leigh calls the show, “… a charm-fest…theater’s answer to a life raft.” Tickets are $25 with a $5 discount for students and seniors.
On March 10, the Ruskin Theatre Group will hold a session of “Library Girl” at 7pm. The theme is “Can we Still be Friends?” Tickets are $10 and available now!
Café Plays is a unique opportunity for directors, actors and writers to create in 10.5 hours. Playwrights, actors and directors compress a preparation schedule that normally takes weeks into one frantic day. The final performance is at 7:30pm & 9pm on the 3rd Sunday of the month at the Ruskin Group Theatre. Tickets to the performance are $15 and $10. In total, five writers, five directors and 10 actors participate. For more information on this unique event, click here.
