Los Angeles is home to a vibrant art community that supported by art walks in major areas every month. One such event, Art Platform – Los Angeles, brings modern and contemporary art to the Santa Monica Airport. The festival is moving to Barker Hangar this year, just minutes from the beach, Santa Monica Pier and cheap hotels in Santa Monica.
Art Platform – Los Angeles aims to be the premier art fair in Southern California, seeking to capture the essence of this city. The elements include light, space, innovation and recreation. The 2012 edition represents Los Angeles’ commitment as an international art capital in bringing together creative people from all over the world. Local and international artists, dealers, collectors, museums and art enthusiasts will come together at Art Platform to experience innovative galleries, a stimulating speaker series, and special programming.
Some of the special programs of 2012 include Co/Lab and Open Platform. Co/Lab brings together non-profits, alternative spaces and independent art, all underneath one roof. Guests can view thriving alternative art from all over the world in one place. Open Platform is a series of art panels, conversations and discussions curated by professionals.
You can take a special docent-led tour of the fair, offered through Nova Fine Art, LLC. Tours are 45-60 minutes, and provide an overview of how to navigate an art fair according to a theme, such as collecting. Three tours are available daily at $15 each. Tours and tickets can be purchased here.
One day passes to the show are $20, $15 for students and seniors. Adults can buy a three day “Run of the Show” Pass for $30. There is a $5 discount for students and seniors. Children 12 and under are admitted free of charge. Parking will available on-site and satellite parking lots of The Barker Hangar.
