Renoir in the 20th Century
Renoir in the 20th Century focuses on the last three decades of Renoir’s career, and will be on display at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art from Feb. 14 thru May 9. Following his departure with impressionism, Renoir turned to a style that was far more classicallly decorative. Having never been studied and shown as they will be at LACMA, the paintings from this period are often misunderstood because they do not fit comfortably into the history of high modernism. Offering a unique look at art history, the exhibition bridges the divide that exists in many people’s minds between nineteenth and twentieth century artistic styles.
