Spend a day of fun in the sun at the Santa Monica Pier Paddleboard Race & Ocean Festival. Join the Honolua Surf Co. on Saturday, June 11 as it starts off summer with a bang with paddleboard races, dory competitions, outrigger canoes, and live music. The event will also feature a surfing, lifeguard, and paddleboard “museum for the day.”
The “museum for the day” will be on the Santa Monica Pier deck and will feature antique surfboards, paddleboards, lifeguard equipment, and other informational exhibits. There will also be on display a fully restored Pete Paterson-crafted dory. The exhibits will explore the histories of skateboarding and the pier.
The paddleboard and dory competitors will each receive an event t-shirt, lunch, drink, and swag bag. Trophies will be awarded to the top winners. Participation is limited and is available on a first come basis. After the races will be an awards ceremony, a live performance from FuDogs, and an after-party for competitors at Rusty’s Surf Ranch on the pier.
This daylong event is a benefit for Heal the Bay and the Santa Monica Pier Aquarium, who will both receive a portion of the proceeds. Heal the Bay is a nonprofit organization that works to make Southern California waters, including the Santa Monica Bay, safe, healthy, and clean. Some of the greatest threats to our coastal waters today are from urban and stormwater runoff, plastic pollution, over-fishing, and climate change. In an effort to help keep Los Angeles’ waters clean, the Santa Monica Pier Paddleboard Race & Ocean Festival will incorporate a beach clean-up as well.
