Spend a Day at the Santa Monica 3rd St Promenade!

The place to go for upscale shopping and quality dining experiences, Third Street Promenade, is popular with locals and visitors alike for its mixture of shops, restaurants and entertainment options. Found in Downtown Santa Monica, one of the most beloved cities in California, it is one of the best shopping districts of the entire Westside region. People travel from across the Los Angeles area to spend the day sampling its wares and a sunset walk along the beach. Those staying at one of the hotels near Third Street Promenade should definitely check out this trendy area!

Ever since the 19th century, Third Street Promenade has been known as a center for retail therapy. Back in the 1960s, a small pedestrianized shopping mall was opened on the site, encompassing three blocks’ worth of shops. This has grown into the fantastic open air experience as it is known today, following a number of successful redevelopments and a grand reopening in spring 2010.

A wide range of well-known brands inhabit stores on the Promenade, from Anthropologie to Urban Outfitters, Apple, LUSH Cosmetics, H&M, Forever 21, Barnes and Noble, Gap, Sephora, Quicksilver and Old Navy to name a few. A number of designer outlets are also available, including Guess?, Armani Exchange, and Fred Segal. Outside of the shopping opportunities, though, there are a number of other draws to the area including several theatres and delicious restaurants. With the Promenade Playhouse and AMC Theatres, there is always something suitable to watch and enjoy. Similarly, street acts and wandering performers are regularly seen on the Promenade, with acts ranging from acoustic singer-songwriters through clowns, hip hop dancers, session drumming, magicians, illusionists and many more. In the warmest weather, acts spread down the length of Third Street with a new performer every 15m (approx.).
